Let’s talk numbers

The cost to sell on Amazon depends on your selling plan, product category, fulfilment strategy, and other variables. The options are flexible, so you can find the combo that works best for you and your goals.
Let's talk numbers

Selling plan

The Individual plan costs 10 kr per unit sold, and the Professional plan costs 410 kr (excl. VAT) per month no matter how many units you sell.

Referral fees

Amazon charges a referral fee for each item sold. The amount depends on the product category. Most referral fees are between 7% and 15%.

Fulfilment fees

The cost to ship your orders depends on whether you fulfil your own orders or use Fulfilment by Amazon (FBA).

Other costs

Some selling partners may incur additional fees (such as long-term storage fees) or pay for optional programmes like advertising or premium account services.

Getting paid and paying fees

When you set up a selling partner account, you’ll provide a credit card number and a bank account. Amazon will charge the credit card to cover your fees, and proceeds from any sales will be deposited into your bank account.

Amazon jargon:

Referral fees

For every item sold, selling partners pay Amazon a percentage of the total price—including item price, shipping cost, and any gift-wrapping charges—or a minimum amount, whichever is greater. Referral fees are in addition to selling plan fees.
FEES

Category Referral Fees

Selling partners pay a referral fee on each item sold. For all products, Amazon deducts the applicable referral fee percentage calculated on the total sales price. The total sales price is the total amount paid by the buyer, including the item price and any delivery or gift wrapping charges.

FEES

Fulfilment Fees

Fulfilment fees depend on whether you plan to ship products yourself, or use Fulfilment by Amazon (FBA) to handle your logistics for your products.

Our flexible rate structure makes it easy to be more competitive.
With FBA, you only pay for the services you use. There are no subscription fees, contracts or minimum inventory requirements. Ship your products to our fulfilment centres and pay for fulfilment services and storage space used.

Other costs

When calculating the full cost of selling in Amazon stores, be sure to consider additional selling expenses you may incur, and other optional programmes designed to help you increase sales.

Additional selling fees

Inventory fees
If you store inventory in an Amazon fulfilment centre—available to selling partners who use FBA—in addition to monthly inventory storage fees, you may incur other fees, such long-term storage fees, overage fees, and removal order fees.
High-volume listing fees
The High Volume Listing Fee will only apply if you exceed 2 million SKUs in a given month, and it will be applied to your highest number of SKUs above 2 million at any time during that month. For each active non-media SKU over 2 million, a fee of 0.0037 kr per SKU will apply.
Refund administration fee
If you refund a customer for an order for which you have already received payment, Amazon will refund you the amount of the referral fee you paid for the item(s), minus the applicable Refund Administration Fee, which is the lesser of 52.5 kr or 20% of the applicable referral fee.

For example, if you refund a customer the GBP 10.00 total sales price of an item in a category with a 15% referral fee, your Refund Administration Fee will be 3 kr (100 kr x 15 % referral fee = 15 kr).

Optional programmes

Advertising
Attract customers from before they even realize they need your product to the time they’re purchasing it. Amazon Advertising uses a cost-per-click, auction-based pricing model, which means you set the maximum amount that you’re willing to pay when a shopper clicks your ad.

FAQs

Get answers to frequently asked questions about using Amazon for ecommerce.
How are Amazon FBA fees calculated?
FBA fees are calculated based on the type and size of the product and on which channel the goods are sold. These cover the costs of storing your items in Amazon's logistics centre, picking, packaging and shipping them once purchased, and providing customer service.

These fees are charged per calendar month for all items stored in Amazon's logistics centre. You can estimate your fees using the FBA Income Calculator for specific items listed on Amazon.
What is the FBA Calculator?
The FBA Calculator is a tool that you can use to check and compare the estimated revenue of all available fulfilment options for the products you have listed on Amazon and registered for Fulfilment by Amazon (FBA). You can also compare the fees and profitability of different fulfilment methods.
What is the difference between Amazon fees and FBA fees?
Amazon fees are fees that all sellers must pay to have products listed and sold on our site. This includes the referral fee, which is a percentage of the total price of your product charged for each item sold. Then, based on your sales plan, you can get a per-item fee or a monthly fee. In addition to this, some sellers may also have to pay additional fees, either for premium services or marketing or for other reasons. You can refer to this page for more details.

FBA (Fulfilment by Amazon) fees, on the other hand, are only charged for products that you have listed under this particular service. It covers the cost of storing, picking, packing and shipping your products with FBA. If you have chosen this, these fees will be charged along with the other Amazon fees mentioned above.
How much does Amazon charge for storing products?
SSellers must pay an inventory storage fee for all items stored in Amazon Fulfilment Centres. This is calculated based on the daily average volume of inventory, which is measured in cubic feet in the UK and cubic metres in the EU.

The fee per cubic foot/metre varies by calendar month - it is lower from January to September, and a slightly higher amount is charged for year-end, that is, very busy months from October through December. The exact amount also depends on which category your product falls into, as well as its dimensions (size).

There is a separate fee structure for the storage of items classed as dangerous goods or hazardous materials.
